PETALING JAYA: Rafizi Ramli, who is contesting the PKR deputy president’s post, claims that there are around 54,000 “dubious” party members who are eligible to vote in the upcoming party elections.

He alleged that there were 1,500 voters who were all registered under the same phone number, according to a Sinar Harian report.

“When our team called some of these PKR members registered under this phone number, they said they didn’t even know they were party members.

“There were also some who were registered without the correct IC number and some from other parties who were brought into PKR. The latter is because one only needs to give their name and IC number to become a member,” he said.

The PKR vice-president said an official complaint had been filed with the party’s election committee on April 12, hoping that these 54,000 members would not be allowed to vote in the party polls.

The former Pandan MP is going head-to-head with PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail for the party’s number two post.

In 2018, Rafizi had also challenged for the post but lost to Gombak MP Azmin Ali, who then defected to Bersatu and contributed to the fall of the Pakatan Harapan government.

Meanwhile, PKR’s election committee chairman Dr Zaliha Mustafa confirmed having received Rafizi’s complaint and said the issue was brought up to the party’s top leadership.

She said the committee had taken necessary measures to deal with dubious voters for the polls, which will be held from May 13 to 18.

“We will ensure that the level of security during the PKR elections is tightened to prevent dubious voters from casting their votes,” she said.
