Umno ministers doing the work, PN claiming credit, says Umno sec-gen

PONTIAN: Perikatan Nasional does not have the right to claim credit for the success of the Covid-19 vaccination programme as the ministers from Umno are the ones who worked hard to manage the pandemic.

Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said all the ministers responsible for managing the pandemic were all from Umno.

“At first, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob was appointed as Senior Defence Minister, Datuk Dr Adham Baba was the Health Minister and Khairy Jamaluddin was the Science, Technology and Innovation Minister.

“When the government changed, another Umno minister, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, was appointed as Senior Defence Minister while Dr Adham and Khairy changed portfolio.

“They are the ones who constantly appear on television to give updates on the pandemic. Where are the ministers from their side?” asked Ahmad.

He said this when asked to comment about a billboard erected by PN which claimed credit for the success of the vaccination programme.

“Even the allocations for the pandemic were approved in Parliament with the support of Umno. We have 42 seats while Bersatu only has 31 seats.

“They need to be modest when claiming credit,” said Ahmad, who is Pontian member of parliament.

On the campaign for the state election, which is on the home stretch, he said he was satisfied with the work done by BN’s machinery.

“I am very satisfied with the campaign so far. I hope the machinery will continue to work hard and follow all the instructions from the party,” said Ahmad.

He, however, reminded them not to be over confident and complacent in the last days of the campaigning.

“We have to look out for any ‘explosive’ moves by our opponents. So far, all their explosive moves like erecting huge posters of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin are surprising, but not worrying,” said Ahmad.

He was speaking to the media after attending the launch of Karnival Kerjaya Jamin Kerja by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
