Malaysia’s new Covid-19 cases up at 19,090 on Feb 10

KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 10): Malaysia’s daily number of new Covid-19 cases climbed to 19,090 on Thursday (Feb 10) from 17,134 a day earlier, bringing the nation’s cumulative figure of individuals infected by the pandemic to 2.98 million so far, according to health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

“From the daily cases reported today (Thursday), 113 cases (0.59%) were [those in] Categories 3, 4 and 5.

“[The remaining] 18,977 cases (99.41%) consisted of [infections in] Categories 1 and 2,” Noor Hisham said.

Daily Covid-19 recoveries stood at 5,712. This brought the latest tally of recoveries so far to 2.84 million since the pandemic began.

Number of active cases, on the other hand, increased to 94,515 on Wednesday (Feb 9) from 83,701 reported on Tuesday (Feb 8).

A total of 83,906 (88.8%) active cases were undergoing home quarantine, 5,405 (5.7%) cases were treated in low-risk quarantine and treatment centres (PKRC), 5,057 (5.4%) patients were admitted to hospitals, while 148 (0.2%) patients were treated in intensive care units.

According to the Ministry of Health’s COVIDNOW portal, the average occupancy rate of the country’s hospital beds slid to 69.9%, compared to 70% the previous day.

There were nine deaths reported on Wednesday, bringing the country’s Covid 19 death toll to 32,065.

12.77 mil adults received Covid-19 booster shot as of Feb 9

As of Wednesday, a total of 12.77 million adults received their booster shots.

Meanwhile, a total of 25.73 million of the adult population had completed their vaccinations, while 26.14 million people of the group had received at least one dose of a Covid-19 vaccine.
