KUALA LUMPUR: It’s already 2022, but the local music industry has yet to resolve the royalty issue.
Singers and musicians have been raising the issue for some time now, with the latest highlighted by singer Tomok.
In an Instagram post yesterday, the 37-year-old artiste shared a copy of the cheque which he received as the royalty payment between 2013 and 2020, amounting to a meagre payout of RM19.06!
In the caption which he included the hashtag #royalty, Tomok wrote: “It’s hard to swallow, but I have to keep moving forward.”
Many of his fans and followers expressed their sympathy towards him, some of whom were shocked to see the total amount he received in a span of eight years.
As such, it’s not surprising that Tomok has also been expanding his job scope by accepting acting offers.
He began singing with the band New Boyz in 1999 and his solo career took off after he won the third season of the reality competition One In A Million in 2009.
