PETALING JAYA: Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim has urged Putrajaya to expedite channeling financial aid to all flood victims since it will not be allowing further withdrawals of Employees Provident Fund (EPF) savings.

“When the government chose not to allow EPF withdrawals, it should have immediately given between RM5,000 and RM10,000 in financial aid to the victims, according to the extent of their losses,” he said in a statement today.

“In this new year, the government must have a new plan of action to lead the nation, especially in times of crisis and in respect of channeling aid to the people.”

Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob recently announced assistance for flood victims could reach up to RM10,000 for each head of household, while victims whose houses were totally destroyed in the floods can get up to RM61,000.

He said the aid would alleviate the victims’ burden without them having to dip into their EPF savings.
