King’s call for post-mortem shows Cabinet has failed, says Kit Siang

PETALING JAYA: The call by the King for a post-mortem on the drainage system causing floods in urban areas is an indication that Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s jumbo-sized Cabinet and his string of advisers are not functioning, according to DAP stalwart Lim Kit Siang.

He said despite the prime minister canceling the year-end leave of his ministers, all appeared to be not well a week after the massive floods struck Malaysians.

“Surely, the government should have sprung into action a week after the floods to find the reasons for the mismanagement of the situation, like carrying out a post-mortem.

“Does the prime minister need to wait for the King to teach the Cabinet what to do?

“How many times has the Cabinet met since the unprecedented floods which have claimed 46 lives with five still missing?” he asked in a statement today.

The King, during a visit to a shelter for flood victims in Taman Sri Muda in Shah Alam yesterday, said a  post-mortem on the drainage system could help prevent flash floods from happening again.

Lim, who is Iskandar Puteri MP, said two days had passed since the order for the ministers to cancel their leave but there was still no sign of any minister returning, adding that Ismail must keep the public informed on this matter.

“In fact there is a document circulating on social media alleging that a senior minister flew off to Dubai after the prime minister had announced the leave cancellation.

“Ismail Sabri needs to refute this if it is not true.

“Silence is not an option because if ministers are seen to openly defy his directive, it will deepen the government’s trust deficit, which has plunged to the lowest level ever in the nation’s history,” he added.
