KUALA LUMPUR: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad will be undergoing several medical investigations, said the National Heart Institute (IJN).

The medical investigations would be completed in the next few days and until then the former prime minister is expected to remain in the facility, it said in a statement.

“Due to the present SOP (standard operating procedures) no visitors are allowed to visit Yang Amat Berbahagia Tun,” it added.

Yesterday, the institute issued a statement revealing that the 96-year-old former prime minister arrived at the facility at 7pm and was admitted for a full medical check-up and further observation.

Dr Mahathir, who served as the fourth and seventh prime minister of Malaysia, had previously undergone two heart bypass operations, in 1989 and 2007.

He was last hospitalised in February 2018 for a bout of cough.

Dr Mahathir who resigned as prime minister in 2020 after the Pakatan Harapan government lost its majority, has revealed that he might contest in the 15th general election (GE15), though it would only be as a “last resort”.
