KUCHING: An Umno leader has lashed out at DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang, accusing him of being “selective” in pushing for a royal commission of inquiry (RCI).

Calling Lim the “most hypocritical politician”, Puad Zarkashi said the Iskandar Puteri MP was silent on calls for an RCI into other matters, including on former central bank governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz and former minister Nor Mohamed Yakcop’s role in the 1MDB scandal.

Puad, an Umno Supreme Council member, also said Lim had not backed calls for an RCI into the alleged political interference in the appointment of judges and the attorney-general (AG), as revealed by former AG Tommy Thomas in a book.

Yesterday, Lim called for an RCI into an alleged plot to arrest former prime minister Najib Razak over the 1MDB scandal in 2015.

This came after a former aide to Najib, Romen Bose, claimed in his soon-to-be-launched book that the plot was foiled by the sacking of two senior civil servants the day before the plan was supposed to be carried out.

The plotters allegedly included then Bank Negara Malaysia governor Zeti, former AG Abdul Gani Patail, ex-Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief Abu Kassim Mohamed, former deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin and former federal minister Shafie Apdal.

“It is clear Lim Kit Siang is the most hypocritical politician. He is always demanding the setting up of RCIs but he is being selective in doing so,” Puad told FMT.

“We will let the people judge them in the next general election (GE15) as they have already done in the Melaka state elections,” said Puad, alluding to the polls in which Barisan Nasional won 21 of the 28 seats up for grabs.
